St. Louis Clan,
please sign petition:
Have you seen the news? President Bush is negotiating a deal with Iraq to
keep our troops there indefinitely--it could include permanent bases and a
massive military presence for years! Bush is trying to tie the hands of
the next president. Congress can stop him from setting up permanent bases
in Iraq and block an indefinite occupation--but they need to hear a
groundswell of pressure from us immediately and loudly so they act on this
quickly.I just signed a petition demanding that Congress stop the
president from committing to a massive military presence in Iraq for
decades. Can you join me? Click below and follow the directions. It's
easy.http://pol.moveon.org/endless/?r_by=11723-7790819-n9uEab&rc=paste

Contested Lands: Photographs Around the Picket Wire
VOELZ CHANDLER: Colorado's contested southeast examinedRocky Mountain
NewsHistorical society exhibit uses photos to tell story that pits Army
vs. localsBy Mary ChandlerFriday, November 30, 2007The Colorado History
Museum often turns to the community as inspiration for its exhibitions,
from Italian-Americans across the state to 500 years of cultural
achievements by Colorado's native peoples. Now, in "Contested Lands:
Photographs Around the Picket Wire," the target is the southeastern corner
of Colorado, where residents, preservationists and defenders of protected
open space are pushing back against the U.S. Army's proposal to expand its
Pinon Canyon Maneuver Site threefold. The move would add something like
414,000 acres, affecting landowners, the Comanche National Grassland and
the mythic Western connector, the Santa Fe Trail..But the museum is taking
a different, more intimate tack to tell this story, bringing artists into
a fray that pits national defense forces against thos
e who've stuck it out in a part of the state with, let's say, a lower
profile than other parts of Colorado.
