I did what you suggested about calling Grieshiemer, and tried to do the e-mails, but the very first one, Koster, refused to accept e-mails from outside his district. So I recommend that calls go in to all the Committee members.

I am also cc'ing Rhonda Perry with Missouri Rural Crisis Center on this message since they are heavily involved in a fight for local control for rural communities with these same senators.

I am pasting below information from MRCC, both an on-line petition that everyone is encouraged to sign, and information about an important rally this coming Monday, March 5, at the Capitol, focused on local control. Audrey and I are going to that rally if others from St. Louis can join us, it would be a great opportunity to coalesce around local control.

Please make sure I know what happens with Sen. Coleman's bill today, so I can do appropriate follow up work on Monday.

  Local Control Petition Drive
  & Family Farm RALLY
  WWW.MORURAL.ORG.

A number of pro-corporate ag, anti-local control bills are being introduced in the state legislature. One bill of grave concern is Senate Bill 364, introduced by Senator Koster & strongly supported by corporate agri-business and Governor Blunt. SB 364 would take away the authority of local elected officials to protect the health and welfare of their constituents by abolishing all current local regulations related to industrial livestock operations.

Please sign the petition and come to the rally on March 5th. Sign on-line TODAY (www.morural.org)—before February 29th! We need as many petition signatures as possible before the March 5th rally. (see flyer below)

What does Senate Bill 364 do?
Senate Bill 364, deceivingly spun as the Missouri Farm and Food Preservation Act,

  · Abolishes all current local ordinances on industrial livestock operations that have been put in place by local elected officials to protect the health and well-being of the majority of family farmers, property owners and rural citizens.
  · Prohibits farmers and property owners from suing corporate livestock factories when the negative impacts of these operations infringe upon their property rights.

  Who is Impacted?

  · The operations that would be protected by this bill are a small minority of corporate controlled, industrial livestock facilities. Out of Missouri ’s 105,000 farming operations, less than ½ of 1% are regulated as CAFOs.
  · In order to protect this very small minority of industrial livestock operations the majority of farmers and landowners will be left without adequate protection from the potential negative impacts of CAFOs (Concentrated Animal Feeding Operations).
  · This bill protects the rights of corporate agri-business at the expense of the vast majority of independent family farmers and rural citizens.

Senate Bill 364 is a Blatant Attack on Family Farmers, Rural Communities, Local Control & Property Rights.

Local Control Rally & Lobby Day
Monday, March 5th, 1:30-4PM @ The State Capitol
Meet at the Third Floor Rotunda

Join Family Farmers, Landowners, Rural Citizens & Local Elected Officials
To support Local Control and Oppose Senate Bill 364

Senate Bill 364 abolishes all local control related to industrial agriculture.

SB 364 IS A PRO-CORPORATE BILL THAT IS A BLATANT ATTEMPT TO HIDE BEHIND THE MAJORITY OF FAMILY FARMERS TO PROTECT A VERY SMALL MINORITY OF INDUSTRIAL LIVESTOCK OPERATIONS.

Come to the Capitol on March 5th to tell your legislators and Governor Blunt that any attempt to weaken local control is a threat to democracy

and WE WON’T STAND FOR IT!

Dear Supporters:

CAPCR’s bill for Local Control of the St. Louis Police Department is
progressing in the Missouri Senate. We need your help to move it along
further. Currently, the bill is scheduled to be heard in committee this
Wednesday, February 28. The committee is the Economic Developement, Tourism
and Local Government Committee.

We are asking you to call the Chair of that committee, Senator John
Griesheimer. Please thank him for hearing the bill and urge his support.
Senator Griesheimer’s phone number is 573-751-3678. The bill is SB 486,
sponsored by Senator Maida Coleman.

It would also be a huge help if you could email the other members of the
committee, asking them to support Local Control. The senators don’t list
their email addresses, so here’s what you can do. 1) Go to the following
link, which lists all the committee members:
http://www.senate.mo.gov/07info/comm/edtl.htm 2) Click on each senator’s
name and then click the button in the upper right hand corner of that
senator’s web page which says “Email the Senator”. 3) You will then be shown
an emai format to fill out.

Thank you in advance. A few minutes of your time will let them know that St.
Louis wants Local Control!
