As we move toward the next legislative session in Jefferson City, the Coalition Against Police Crimes and Repression is gearing up for phase two of our campaign for Local Control of the St. Louis Police Dept. Maida Coleman has agreed to sponsor our bill in the State Senate again this year. Jeanette Mott Oxford will be the House sponsor.
As many of you know, the St. Louis Board of Aldermen voted 22-1 to support a resolution calling for Local Control. The Aldermanic Black Caucus has offered support in turning out folks for a Lobby Day in Jeff City which will probably be in February.
We are in the process of getting signatures on postcards which we will use in Jeff City to show support for the issue. If you can take some of these cards to meetings of your organization, or if you or your organization want to officially endorse Local Control, please let us know.
