>From St. Louis Speaks Out:
October 12-14, 2007 the Peace Economy Project will be bringing together
experts in the fields of economic conversion, defense spending and
policy, disarmament, and peace activism from all across the country.
These researchers and activists will be working diligently throughout
this weekend of roundtable discussions to develop a strategy for
educating the public about the vast amount of tax dollars used to
support superfluous military programs while social and infrastructural
needs are all but ignored. The conference will take place at the Aquinas
Institute of Theology, here in St Louis, MO.
On the evening of Saturday, October 13 from 7-8:30pm, conference
attendees Frida Berrigan and Mary Beth Sullivan of the Arms Security
Initiative branch of the New America Foundation and the Global Network
Against Weapons and Nuclear Power in Space, respectively, will present
at a public event entitled "Defining Security: Peace, Justice, and the
Economy." The event is sponsored by the Doerr Center for Social Justice
from St Louis University and will be held in the Carlo Auditorium in
Tegeler Hall on the campus of St Louis University; 3550 Lindell Blvd, 63103.
