Hey PINKS!

Hope families can come Saturday, September 15th, 10 AM-12 for the
Conscientious Objector Training; you'll learn how to keep your children
safe from a possible war time draft. Maybe you can even arrange a
carpoole with other families. Please let them know that childcare/art
projects are available.

Last Friday, Lieutenant General Douglas Lute- in charge of coordinating
the US war effort in Iraq, said that it makes sense to consider a return
of the draft to meet the US military's needs (commondreams.org); coupled
with this has been chatter about a possible war with Iran.
CODEPINK-Women for Peace is not only concerned about protecting our
children from a possible draft, but also that women have a likely chance
of being drafted as well; which is why we are providing free childcare
while you learn about how to protect your child from the draft.

CODEPINK is a woman-initiated grassroots peace and social justice
movement working to end the war in Iraq, stop new wars, and redirect our
resources into healthcare, education, and other life-affirming
activities. CODEPINK rejects the Bush administration's fear-based
politics that justify violence, and instead calls on policies based on
compassion, kindness, and a commitment to international law. With an
emphasis on joy and humor, CODEPINK women and men seek to activate,
amplify, and inspire a community of peacemakers through creative
campaigns and a commitment to non-violence.

CODEPINK has teamed up with Chuc Smith president of St.Louis Veterans
For Peace and member Alternatives to Military Service, and the Ethical
Society to provide a training on how to establish a file that supports
your child's claim of conscientious objection to war. The file you will
be beginning in this workshop could be used during a possible war-time
draft. Also Chuc will discuss choices related to Selective Service
registering for your 18 year-old males and learn about possible future
drafts utilizing females.
