Hi all,

Sorry for the late message. I was out of the country this past week
and had only sporadic access to the internet. As I mentioned in a
previous message, I'll be trying to set up a similar group (with
weekly event listings) that is not limited to the summer, so expect a
friend request from me in the next few days if we're not already
friends.

Fortunately, there are still some great events going on during the
remaining days of the week...

Thursday, August 14, The Drive Agency is hosting the "Do-It-Yourself
Art Show: Recycled Rubbish and Waste" starting at 5:30 at 1617 Locust
Street. All of the artworks are from items recovered from the
Mississippi River, and a percentage of the proceeds go to Living Lands
& Waters. More info is at:
 http://www.riverfronttimes.com/events/do-it-yourself-art-show-recycled-rubbish-and-waste-555427/

Friday, August 15. This month's Peace Economy Project BBQ (with
vegetarian options) is going to be focused on discussions of "the
Bomb." The event's at 5 PM at the World Community Center at 438 N.
Skinker, and you can find more details and RSVP at
http://www.facebook.com/event.php?eid=22749504929.

Also Friday, at 7:30 PM, there will be a screening of "Gus", the 2004
Best Biography winner at the New York International Independent Film
and Video Festival. The film is about a St. Louis fashion store, Gus
Fashions, frequented by celebrities like Tupac and Nelly, resisting
expulsion from a neighborhood in the process of redevelopment. The
event costs $12 at the door ($10 in advance) and will be at the Mad
Art Gallery. More info is at

.

Saturday, August 16, 1 to 3 PM in Kiener Plaza. The new InBev owners
of Anheuser Busch are going to be meeting with union officials early
next week to renegotiate the contracts of thousands of A-B workers.
The Teamsters have organized a St. Louis rally with international
speakers to show support for the workers of Anheuser Busch. The labor
movement has been a crucial part of the struggle for a better world,
and that movement is only as strong as the support it gets from the
rest of society. Please come out and show your support for the
Anheuser-Busch employees who have been such a crucial part of the St.
Louis community! You can RSVP and find out more at
http://www.facebook.com/event.php?eid=65730310073

Later Saturday (or actually technically Sunday) is the annual
Moonlight Ramble, an event that attracts thousands of bike riders from
across St. Louis. The even starts at 12:01 AM and you can find the
details at http://www.moonlightramble.com/

Sunday, August 17 The Earthways Center, a three-story Victorian
residence built to showcase practical demonstrations of energy
efficient systems, recycled products and waste reduction practices,
offers tours of its facilities at noon, 1 PM and 2 PM the third Sunday
of every month. The cost is $3 and address is 3617 Grandel Square.

That's all for now; have a fun and meaningful rest of the week,

Adam
