In 2005, the Green Mayoral campaign focused on word-of-mouth and 
received over 20% of the vote, including 40% of the vote in three 
predominantly black north city wards.

There is already vastly more organizing by the Greens for the 2009 race. 
There is also much more hostility toward the sitting mayor, Francis 
Slay. Elston K. McCowan is very likely to get over 40% of the vote 
city-wide and actually has a chance of becoming the first Green Party 
candidate to win a mayoral election in a partisan election in a major US 
city.
