Vote NO on Proposition S

This is the sales tax pushed by the mayor that will have a negative
impact on poor and working people. It is to correct the
administration's continued bad fiscal decision-making. Even the
Firefighters for Racial Equality (FIRE) whom the mayor claims will
benefit directly from the sales tax is on record opposing Prop S.

For more commentary on Prop S, see the OBS Chairwoman's column in the
St. Louis American

NO to the CIvil Rights Initiative

There will be a number of people out at the voting polls on February 5
asking your signatures on various issues. Most of these will be legit
such as the Recall Mayor Slay effort and Justice for Reggie Clemons
clemency petition. However BEWARE! Ward Connerly will have paid
campaigners who are aggressively working to get this despicable issue
on the ballot that will eliminate affirmative action in Missouri. The
name of the ballot initiative (MO Civil Rights Initiative) as well as
the ballot language is DESIGNED to confuse voters. Don't be fooled.
Read carefully anything associated with this initiative and "think
before you ink".

There is a coalition that OBS is a part of called WE CAN that is
working hard to oppose the so-called Civil Rights Initiative by first
trying to keep it off the ballot. You may also encounter some WE CAN
volunteers at the polls distributing information about Connerly and
his plan.

Do you want to be listened to?

After the dust settles from Super Tuesday, consider participating in
the Death Penalty Listening Project. The Project is designed to
capture the views of African-Americans in Missouri on the death
penalty. Whether you support, oppose, have no opinion, or need more
information to develop an opinion, we want to hear from you.

You can set up an interview to be heard by calling the American
Friends Service Committee (AFSC) at (314) 862-5573 Ext. 11.

The Listening Project is sponsored by the AFSC, OBS and Missourians to
Abolish the Death Penalty.
