International Fiber Collaborative
The goal of
the International Fiber Collaborative is to provide an opportunity for
people who enjoy working with crafts, whether professional artists,
hobbyists or students to come together from all over the world to express
their concerns about their countries extreme dependency on oil for
energy. Those who participate will crochet, knit, stitch, patch, or
collage 3 foot square fiber panels that will express each participants
concern on this topic. Your panel need not contain an image or be a
literal portrayal of your idea. Simply by designing and creating a panel
of any colors and any fiber technique and participating in this project
you are, in the larger picture, expressing your concern on this important
subject to the rest of the world. In March of 2008, these panels will be
sewn together to completely cover an abandoned gas station and gas pumps
in central New York State. The interest for this large cover to travel
to other abandoned gas stations nationally as well as internationally is
growing and is becoming much more of a reality.
-On September 27, 2007 our project is proud to have gained fiscal
sponsorship through Allied For The Arts in Seattle, WA. Which now means
we have a tax write off number for any individual or organization who
wishes to financially support this collaborative.
-October 16, 2007 Vogue Knitting will release there October/Winter Issue
which includes an article on this project. I hope this article will find
others interested in writing about our collaborative as well as new
participants.
-Also, I would like to put together a video of short clips sent in by
participants or those opposed to this project from all over the world,
for a Gallery show in March 2008 promoting this project. If you would
like to submit a short 1-4 minute video of you describing your views
and/or interest on this project, please feel free to email me if you
would like to do this. You can also show off any work in progress or your
interest in the fiber arts. You may include this March show as a
collaborative work in which you were involved in. Please consider this as
a great way of participating and accelerating this project.
Take Care,
Jennifer Marsh
