Here is the flyer for the Reclaim the Dream event at Legacy Bookstore
Jan 21st at 7 pm. The flyer was revamped just a bit over the weekend.
----
In 1964 Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. declared, "I have a dream..."
Unfortunately, many of the same themes Dr. King dealt with in his
historic speech still plague our nation.
Militarism. Racism. Poverty. In fact, not much has changed. The war in
Iraq continues. Police brutality, hate-crimes and anti-Affirmative
Action ballot initiatives are on the rise. And workers' rights to form
unions are attacked.
Militarism - 4000 U.S. soldiers and a
conservative estimate of half a million Iraqi
civilians have died in Iraq. The financial cost is $275 million
dollars a day with nearly $500 billion wasted
thus far reaping the military industrial complex un-heard of profits.
Seventy percent of Americans have
demanded an end to the occupation, yet Congress and the President
continue the war.
Racism - Hate crimes and police brutality run
rampant. Anti-Affirmative Action ballot
initiatives are on the rise. Ward Connerlly has sold his soul - and
his fellow African Americans - down the
river, while the hangman's noose is found in Jena, New York, and every
where in-between. Anti-immigrant
bashing by right-wing politicians and their Minutemen Militias has
added a new dimension to the struggle
against racism.
Poverty - Workers' rights to form and join unions
are being viciously attacked. In fact,
every 23 minutes a worker is fired or punished for supporting a union.
Corporate attacks are most harshly
focused on African American and women workers, who are even more
exploited than their white counter-
parts. The housing crisis is turning the American dream into a
nightmare, and 45 million Americans go
without health care each day.
Join us January 21, 7 P.M. at Legacy Bookstore
(5249 Delmar Blvd.) to celebrate
Martin Luther King's birthday
