Subject: Slay Recall Petition Volunteers Needed at Tuesday's Election
From: nicholas clement <nfc11 at sbcglobal.net>

Friends,
February 5th is an opportunity to return democratic government to our
city. We can get all the signatures needed on February 5th to force a
recall election of Francis Slay. I have been part of the recall
effort for the past 6 months. Saturday after Saturday a group of us
have gone out in north side wards getting signatures. We have 3 of
the 19 wards needed.
If we have sufficient petitioners at the polling sites to handle the
record turnouts expected, we will get the rest. In the targeted wards
it doesn't take much persuading.

I can't think of anything more politically beneficial than removing
Francis Slay from office.
Remember that Francis Slay, almost singlhandedly, destroyed the St.
Louis Public Schools.
It was Slay who fronted for the Republican Party's attempt to limit
suffrage and consolidate power in the mayor's office through the
charter amendments ABCD. George Bush's Brother, Bucky Bush, and
cousin, Bert Walker, were key sponsors of the Charter organization,
chaired by Bob Archibald. (If ever there were a nasty little man, it
is Bob Archibald. His employee, Melanie Adams is Slay's appointee to
the SAB)

Remember that it is Slay's Republican contributor base who funded and
organized the campaign of G W Bush. Jack Danforth, Bill Dewitt and
Sam Fox are all in Bush's special club of high dollar contributors
called "Pioneers." If you want to know how we got into a
meat-grinder like Iraq, look at these three criminal millionaires.
Danforth lobbied for the war and supported it 100%. Fox, who Bush
appointed an ambassador, took Slay on an overseas all expenses paid
junket.

We have a 30 year development policy that has now bankrupted the city.
Now Slay wants to tax the middle class and poor to subsidize his
largess to millionaire developers. Two years ago, property taxes
skyrocketed all across the city.

Is our city getting better? 11 Catholic parishes closed two years
ago. Where are the people going?
The loft district developments, heavily tax abated, are only half
full. Many will likely go bankrupt.
Slay sold a slice of Forest Park, the jewel of our city, to private
interests for their use.
There is ongoing abuse of eminent domain.

The Convention Center hotel is bankrupt, again, and we are told that
St. Louis should not expect to compete with first class cities for
convention business--the pie in the sky dream of Civic Progress and
the RCGA for 40 years. Slay has not been mayor for all that time, but
he has accelerated the policy. Slay's constituency is not the working
people and pensioners of our city, it is the CEO's of Civic Progress
and the RCGA ( like Rick Sullivan, big contributor to Matt Blunt).
It was Slay, in May of 2006, immediately after the election of parents
Peter Downs and Donna Jones, who urged the Republican leadership in
the statehouse and DESE to remove our elected board members from the
School Board.

Isn't everyone tired of this? Lets do something about it.

We need volunteers to get signatures at polling sites as people leave
the polls. If you are campaigning for a candidate, you can still do
that as people enter the polling site. We are asking people as they
leave the polls to sign the recall petitions. Any time you can offer
will be useful. Forward this to your own lists. Email me if you want
to help.
