Subject: Update for week of June 9
Hi, hope everyone had a great week. Don't forget to keep checking the
wall (http://www.facebook.com/wall.php?id=42394370297) for lots of
great announcements, and the discussion boards for the most recent
calendars from Jobs With Justice, the Instead of War Coalition, and
the Interfaith Committee on Latin America. And please send me a
message directly if you'd like your event to be included in the weekly
update.
This week's events:
Tomorrow (Tuesday, June 10) is a National Call-In Day for Diplomacy
with Iran. That is, diplomacy as opposed to another disastrous war.
More details on the St. Louis Instead of War website:
http://www.insteadofwar.org/site/comments.php?id=1757_0_1_0_C
And Tuesday evening, the St. Louis Amnesty Chapter has their monthly
meeting at the Schlafly Branch
of the STL Public Library (225 North Euclid) from 7-8:30 p.m.
On Wednesday (June 11), former Chief UN Weapons Inspector in Iraq
Scott Ritter will be joining recording artists Lizzie West and Baba
Buffalo, as well as local slam poets for an evening of consciousness
raising. I heard Mr. Ritter at an earlier talk in St. Louis this
year, and he is an exceptionally engaging speaker. Check it out at:
http://www.insteadofwar.org/site/more.php?id=1761_0_1_0_M
Friday (June 13) the Peace Economy Project is having their monthly
barbecue (with vegetarian options):

And next Sunday, like every Sunday, there will be a candlelight vigil
to remember the human toll of the war at College Church:

I was out of town last week and missed the message about last week's
meeting, but some of you might be interested in the group Students for
Meaningful Commuity Involvement:
http://www.facebook.com/group.php?gid=12357388122 . Since the group
is focused on a specific plan for WashU, I believe it is limited to
members of the WashU community.
Finally, in addition to some of the campaign postings on the wall, a
fellow member of this group, Joan Landmann, is looking for help in her
primary campaign for state representative. You can find her at
http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=849604657&ref=ts . I'm sure it
would be a very rewarding experience.
Have a fun and meaningful week,
Adam
