Subject: Update for week of June 16

Hi everyone, hope your summer is going great! The good news is that
there are a lot of cool events this week; the bad news is that half of
them are on Thursday evening! Oh well, at least there should be
something within walking distance. So, with no further ado, here are
some of this week's events:

...

Tonight (June 16): Berkeley Professor of Cognitive Science and
Linguistics George Lakoff will be discussing his new book *The
Political Mind: Why You Can't Understand 21st-Century Politics with an
18th-Century Brain* at the central branch of the St. Louis Library.
More info at http://www.insteadofwar.org/site/calendar/events.php?id=E4355
.

Tuesday (June 17)
I-squared, the Young Friends Network of the International Institute of
St. Louis, is having their monthly dinner club at the Maya Cafe at 7
PM. I-squared "supports the International Institute in its efforts to
promote the value of ethnic diversity in St. Louis and the region."
More info can be found down the page at
http://www.iistl.org/young_friends_network.php .

Wednesday (June 18) Wasn't sure what to put here, but there is a Hike
it, Bike it, or Cave it" event sponsored by St. Louis Trailnets. For
this and other Trailnets group bike rides, check out
http://www.trailnet.org/calendar.php . Or, for the more wild at
heart, Wednesday is also a full moon and hence the date of the FBCs
next ride: http://www.fuckingbikeclub.blogspot.com/ . The FBC ride
appears to have the dual theme of "Flag Day" and "The Summertime
Underwear Pool Party Of Destiny 2008".

Thursday the 19th events (in no particular order):

Potluck at the WashU Coop at 7:30 (6036 Pershing Avenue). Contact
Jerome Bauer (http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=593555791) for
more details.

St. Louis Vegetarian Society June Picnic: 6:30 PM at Blackburn Park in
Webster Groves. You can contact them at thestlvs at yahoo.com .

Night of 1000 Conversations (on immigration), sponsored by the
Interfaith Committee on Latin America. See a description at
http://www.ifcla.net/comments.php?id=160_0_1_0_C .

and Rogers (south of Tower Grove Park) at 7:00 pm.

The Webster Film Series is screening a documentary on the the founder
of the modern art car movement, Harrod Blank; details at
http://www.webster.edu/filmseries/content.html#omg . 8 PM.

CAMP fundraiser: The Community Arts and Media Project is hosting a
"Super Summer Salad Fundraiser + movie" starting at 6 PM. The movies
will be "The Future of Food" by Deborah Koons and "Activist Nation:
Food Not Bombs" by SourceCode. Facebook group at:

there will be poetry, drumming, and speakers Friday night at 7 PM:
http://www.obs-onthemove.org/ and a Reggae party on Saturday.

Saturday (June 21) A blogger's picnic for all St. Louis area bloggers!
The netroots movement has dramatically changed national politics in
only a few short years, and we're building a movement that will do the
same in St. Louis and Missouri. Check it out at
http://www.facebook.com/event.php?eid=22039241788 .

Saturday evening (starting at 10 PM):

Sunday (June 22). Justice and Peace Shares Evening at McGurk's Garden.
Justice and Peace Shares (JPS) is a revolutionary system developed to
help St. Louis peace groups not have to spend all of their time
fundraising. You can find out more about the group and the event at
http://www.facebook.com/event.php?eid=15244001451 .

...

Finally, some of you might be interested to know that there is a call
for documentary film submissions on healthcare for this year's Bread
and Roses exhibition. You can find out more info at
http://www.stl-jwj.org/bread-and-roses/ . I believe there will also
be a workshop in early July for people who have not made documentaries
before; I'll post the details when I get them.

Have an enjoyable and meaningful week,

Adam
