The Miss Rockaway Armada is a collective of artists, musicians,
and adventurers who spent the summers of 2006 and 2007 journeying down
the Mississippi River on a fleet of homemade junk-rafts. Hailing from
all parts of the country and all walks of life, the Miss Rockaway
Armada is united by the desire to create; to demonstrate different
ways of living and moving that are friendlier to the environment and
to each other; to indulge the urge to make something out of nothing.
Since the termination of the riverbound Armada in St. Louis last
summer, former crew members have been collaborating on new projects
that have grown out of the energy of the Mississippi river. After an
installation at MassMOCA in April, the crew was invited to create an
installation for Program Heartland, an interdisciplinary exploration
of the American Midwest. The installation will be built during the
presidential election this -November in Eindhoven, Holland. We're a
small group of people with extensive experience making big insane
projects... but now we need money to buy nails & screws! We blew our
budget on plane tickets!
