Gateway Greens Advocate Lifting of All Restrictions on Cuba

St. Louisans Tell of Life in Cuba

_April 20, 2009-- St. Louis, Missouri._ Tim Kaminski visited Cuba in
1979-1980, when it was still supported by the Soviet Union. He
witnessed a poor country attempting to provide food, housing, education
and medical care to its citizens.

Bud Deraps visited Cuba four times during the 1990s, during the
so-called "Special Period," which followed the collapse of the Soviet
Union. He stayed with Cubans and saw the strengths and limitations of
life on the island.

Don Fitz, saw current life in Cuba in January 2009 when he visited his
daughter Rebecca, who is a first year student at the Latin American
School of Medicine in Havana. She is a graduate of University City High
School.

Tim Kaminski, Bud Deraps and Don Fitz will speak at a press conference at...

                                    1:00 pm, Monday, April 20, 2009

                                    Community Arts and Media Project
(CAMP), 3026 Cherokee [at Minnesota]

All are affiliated with the Green Party of St. Louis. The Greens
applaud President Obama's recent relaxation of restrictions on Americans
visiting relatives in Cuba. But the Greens are deeply disappointed that
he said nothing about the economic embargo. The US embargo is in
violation of international agreements and causes needless hardship on
Cubans. The effect is worst for medicines and diagnostic equipment
manufactured in the US which cannot go to Cuba.

The Green Party of St. Louis advocates complete normalization of
relationships with Cuba, including:

1. an end to the economic embargo against Cuba; and,

2. removal of all travel restrictions for Americans wishing to visit Cuba.

Marilyn Lorenz, Program Coordinator of the Interfaith Committee on Latin
America, will comment on US policy toward the Americas.
