[imc-st.louis] Tell KDHX Not to get rid of its community talk shows!

Urban Review St. Louis (and other sources) report community radio
station KDHX 88.1 is considering getting rid of all of its talk
programs: http://www.urbanreviewstl.com/?p=6508 . Last year, in a St.
Louis market already dominated by right-wing radio, KDHX decided to
get rid of the full radio version of Democracy Now and replace it with
a short headlines segment. These new changes could make talk shows
like Earthworms, Collateral Damage, and Topic A completely disappear
or be reduced to short sound bites.

This is a terrible idea! With recent cuts of important St. Louis
journalist voices like Sylvester Brown, Eric Mink, and Lizz Brown, St.
Louis needs MORE voices in the media, NOT LESS! Traditional media
outlets are getting rid of quality reporters and columnists, so its
more important than ever that COMMUNITY RADIO provide an outlet for
different points of view.

Please join this group and send emails to Bev Hacker (bhacker at kdhx.org
) and Nico Leone (nico at kdhx.org) letting them know that we don't want
them to get rid of talk shows, or to turn them into podcast-only, or
to collapse them into three minute soundbites. They will be meeting
on Thursday at 6 PM to decide the fate of these programs.

KDHX's motto is "your community, your media." Let's let them know that
the St. Louis Community is in favor of a wide range of opinions and
quality discourse. If KDHX wants to support the community, they need
to provide a way for the community to discuss the important issues of
our time.
