i'm pleased to say that, following an unexpected power-cycle at
approximately 01:40 UTC on 01 Jan 2009, kompost is now back online,
along with all affected vservers and their services (in the case of the
docs, anyway).

DIAGNOSTICS:
============

it is not clear what caused the power outage as no other machines in the
rack appeared to be affected. this is being investigated with the colo
providers.

due to the software configuration, the server tried to mount the
encrypted partitions - which were not available; it was also configured
to try to mount one of the vservers by default. this has now been
rectified; however, further reboots will require manual intervention to
restart the vservers (and corresponding vservers).
