hello features,

going through a backlog of unread mails, i saw this one about a feature
proposal of the aubonne bridge recent court case, where the police that
cut the ropes from which Martin Shaw and Gesine Wenzel were hanging
whilst trying to block the G8 summit in evian last year, were let off by
a swiss judge.

i understood that mail as a feature proposal by alice, and because it was
proposed some days ago, a i've just published it.

it is now here: http://www.indymedia.org.uk/en/2004/11/301328.html

or below for those too lazy to go to the site:)

> if someone could let me know the process thatd be great. cheers, a

hi alice,

thanks for your feature proposal.

do you mean the process to propose features for the middle column, or
just to publish in the newswire?

the newseire is open to anyone that has something to say, and that does
not contravene the current imc-uk editorial guidelines (see:
http://indymedia.org.uk/en/static/editorial.html)

as for the features in the middle column, it basically works the way you
have done it. you put together a feature, preferably with links, media,
background info, and so on, and propose it to this list. it then sits
here for 24h to let people in this list to have a look at the proposal,
and be able to comment upon it. if there are no disagreements, the
feature can go up after this 24h period.

to make them appeqr in the front page you need access to the admin
section of imcuk. to get that access, one needs to get involved in a
local imc kollektive. i guess different kollektives in the uk network
have different processes to give out access to admin.

but, if you don't have your login to admin, that should not stop you from
proposing features. just send them here (as you've done) and someone else
will eventually add it to the website. when proposing features though, it
is actually better if you include all the relevant links, and the html if
possible (see below)

if you want to get more involved in doing features, or any other aspect
of indymedia, please contact your nearest imc kollektive .. there are
spread all over this island now! :-)

cheers

maqui

Title: Having the G8 in Town Justifies Lethal Police Actions.

<p>
The judge investigating the <a href="http://www.aubonnebridge.net
">Aubonne Bridge</a> case has said that any mistakes made by the police
on the bridge were "understandable" because of the stress of the G8
summit taking place nearby, and that the activists shouldn't have put
themselves in such a dangerous situation. The report states that it was
the activists' fault that the <a
href="http://www.aubonnebridge.net/video.php">police
cut the rope from which two climbers were suspended</a>, whilst
blockading a
delegation on their way to the <a href="/en/2003/12/282510.html">G8
summit in Evian</a> in May 2003. Despite being warned by activists on the
blockade that there were people hanging from it, a policeman took a knife
and cut the rope causing a 20 meter fall of <a
href="/en/2003/06/72621.html">Martin Shaw</a>. Fortunately he survived,
but was left with very severe injuries to his back, pelvis and foot.
Gesine Wenzel on the other end of the rope was saved at the last moment
as activists grabbed the other end of the rope. The judge's declaration,
which took 18 months to produce, seems to have been written to give
"carte blanche to the police to do whatever they want without fear for
any legal consequences", the activist's Swiss lawyer said. [<a
href="/en/2004/11/300881.html">Full report</a>]

<p>
As a result of the judge's decission, the climbers of the Aubonne Bridge
Action entered the Chateau in Lausanne on Friday 12th November - the seat
of the government of Vaud (Switzerland) - with a banner saying "Your cops
are your responsibility!". The two activists, together with
supporters and the press, asked the Conseil d'Etat to accept
responsibility
for the actions of their police force {<a

<br><br>
Meanwhile Martin Shaw and Gesine Wenzel still maintain their demands:<br>
* Charges to be brought against both the policeman who cut the rope and
his
senior officer.<br>
* Compensation for injuries and loss of earnings
