Just some info for posters & admins who resize features and also for
techies who willl done day implement the automatic reszing:
a width of 700 pixels , or 10 inches, seems to be ok for a uk article
page. (im using GIMP). If the height is smaller than the width (i.e. if
the orientation is landscape not portrait) then the size in Kb should
not be bigger than 70Kb. If it is bigger, with GIMP you can reduce the
quality of the image if instead of doing "save" you do "save as" until
you get a desired number of Kb.
Always try to use jpg for websites - it is the default for all digital
cameras that I have seen anyway - and always use a resolution of 72 dpi.
All these values are, in GIMP, under Menu > Image > Scale image.
Remember you can always reduce the size and quality of images but never
increase it so always keep a backup of your bigger and better pix - but
NOT on the server! ;-).
(also remember that this advice applies ONLY for websites and esp. the
indy uk site NOT for printing)
