If there is an admin problem we should sort it out - could they have read
the features list and seen
who is doing alot of admin at the moment? I can understand your worry but
it could have been a
good guess.

Maybe after G8 each collective should have a check of who has access and
see if they are all still
active in indymeida. Obviously the more people that have admin the better -
as we are an open
network ( there is room for abuse, and not everyone is our friend! ) but to
me i think all admin
should be accountable to a local collective (or in some cases to the UK
network collective) which i
imagine we all are.

As for Admin commenting on posts - although in general there is no problem
with this - all imc
vollunteers use indymedia - i can understand why people might feel
sensitive about an admin
hidding their posts and also actively arguing in the comments. Personally i
wouldn't mind an
unofficial move for us to not do this - but as there is no way of enforcing
it there is no need for
hard and fast rules. (not saying your comments and amin work on this post
is wrong - i would have
done the same - just how it seems from outside admin)

cheers tony

Hmmm, so 318900 - which is "non-news" and should be discussed through the
features list opens up some interesting questions for me:

The 2 hidden comments complained of are: (from 318712)

(123487)[2005-07-19 15:24:00+01] which says that " (ISMers) however, seem to
make particularly good friends with militant palestinians whom - I have
heeard from good sources - use them for information."

That is "innacurate" and places people in danger

(123488)[2005-07-19 15:25:00+01]which says that "I have seen the damage
these people (ISMers) have done and the way they have tried to get IDF
soldiers to attack people for their pictures and their reports." It then
goes on to insinuate that ISM is making money out weapons smuggling, people
smuggling and 'tunnel work'.

Again, this is "inaccurate" and places people in danger.

It is of note that the 2 pieces were posted within 1 minute of each other -
supposedly by a Palestinian and an ex-UN worker. I strongly suspect that
they are the same person.

The fact that the complainant knows that I hid those articles raises an
interesting question - how did they get access to the admin interface? As
far as I know there is no other way that a poster can tell who hid comments,
as comments tend not to be reported on the list.

Did someone give this information out, or is somone attacking ISM with
dangerous lies from within Indymedia UK?

In the meantime, 318900 is non-news and someone else might like to have a
look and see whether it needs hiding.

Cheers
