Hi,
Just want to support the timetable, and for now the implementation, of
this one. We've had a couple of e-mails that suggest there might not be
consensus, but I actually think peeps generally agree....
The timetable... The original suggestion to start this particular
implementation was at the start of September on the features list. This
was followed through with discussions. Then an implementation proposal
was made a month ago. With the implementation now working, it doesn't
seem odd to do try it in a weeks time.
The implementation... now we have had a couple of new thoughts about how
to do it. I really feel it is an implementation of the idea we can work
with. In the near future as we continue to innovate we may change it -
with the knowledge of how it effects things. This implementation works -
lets use it. I've said it before but I'd like to do even more with the
front page....

FWIW I'm my brain has a future front page with:-
o open postings in some topics
o the promoted newswire articles
o our mid-column uk features
o the all topics/all regions features
o a feed from the syndicated global site
mainly just titles/pics and links, not l.o.n.g text.
The reasoning is to hightlight local and global 'we are actually
involved' reporting and comment. Design wise to make this clear I'd also
like to keep a bit more of the earthy grassroots feel of the
layout/design - and I mean more than the ny.imc or sf.imc that I did
like. I've started to wonder about the overly slick looking designs.
When my local newspaper can make a mock 'your news' site - there is
something great about the way we look and do things ;-)
