hi all,
i've just been catching up on the debate a little bit. seems like there was a
discussion on the imc-uk-process list which led to a change in the way that
photos are displayed and now there is divided opinion on imc-uk-features as not
everyone feels consulted.
the main points of contention seem to be:
- - thumbnail display / resizing of images
- - ability to see *all* full size images at the same time on one page
- - amount of text able to be displayed with each picture
and i guess also a sub-theme of photographers being able to promote their work
effectively.
so, to help try and solve the current impasse, i have some suggestions:
PROPOSALS:
1. the site is reverted to how it was by midnight on saturday night.
[it is purposefully left for such a long period as i understand that it is a lot
of work, and requires changing each regions css file individually. of course,
this is not to say that it cannot be done sooner!]
2. there is discussion about image presentation on the imc-uk-features list only
(to stop crossposting) until midnight on friday night, december 9th. then, any
work can be done on the weekend (if people have time).

personal thoughts:
i actually like the thumbnails. however, i prefer the way that you see all of
them on the current version up at the dev site, e.g.
http://chris.dev.indymedia.org.uk/en/2005/11/324101.html by clicking on "Full size".
what about having a "photo feature" permanently on the front page of the site,
like nyc.indymedia.org does? this could be a bigger than thumbnail pic with a
couple of sentences and link back to the article (containing more photos?) that
the photo came from. the nyc site is also designed to select a random photo each
time hte page is reloaded.
anyway, just looking for a way forward.
