Yeah, this makes sense to me, the front page could have
the promoted newswire by default and have a view all posts
link which swaps the content of the right hand col (as nyc
and www have).

*However* how will the archives, topics and regions work?

Unless these can be left showing all unhidden posts it
could get very complicated... take the newswire archives
for example:

  http://www.indymedia.org.uk/en/newswire/archive.html

If the centre col here only has promoted articles and not
both types then how would one get to any material that is
a couple of years old and hasn't ever been promoted...?
