Hi

I'd like to propose this as a startpage special for the
Terror War topic, html version:

  https://docs.indymedia.org/view/Local/UkFeatureTerrorWar

I see it as an article that can be added to and developed
in time as more newswire articles are linked rather than a
finished work.

Text:

 The War of Terror

The "War on Terror" has it's precedents in operations
like Gladio — it can be seen as the "Strategy of Tension"
gone global and as a logical extension of US/UK imperial
policy post-1945. According to Youssef Aschkar the "War
on Terror" did not start on 11th September 2001, "between
1996 and September 11, 2001, the culture of hate and fear
was spread to the United States by the publication of
thousands of books and articles on the subject of
terrorism. From that time onward, “Islamic terrorism”
became the new Evil Empire". The Power of Nightmares, a
BBC documentary, starts from earlier, it "explores the
origins in the 1940s and 50s of Islamic Fundamentalism in
the Middle East, and Neoconservatism in America,
parallels between these movements". With the "War on
Terror" legality and morality have gone out of the
window, torture, detention without trial, rendition, dawn
raids and executions are the new norm as muslims are
demonised to justify the "Clash of Civiliasations" and
 global war.
