Responding to yet another bout of IMC soul-searching.

Firstly I agree with Richard's explanation. Perhaps people in IMCUK, especizally those who have got involved more recently, should have alook at other IMC sites, and see that they provide what IMC claims, a news site for the activist community about grass-roots non-hierarchical struggles, actions, and campaigns. If people are interested in a different type of site, join another site or set up your own.

I have to comment on the following post from a 'Truther'

Hi Ben,
I would point out that I, and the West Yorkshire Truth Campaign, are activists out there doing things

>Then report on what you DO, not speculation

There's no point in being an activist on the basis of acceptance of a single ideology or a historic interpretation of the world. Thereby you get trapped into endless fruitless conflict situations, which are simply part of the slavery mechanism.
I'm not some right-wing nut out to push fruitcake solutions, but in these times of globalism with the huge Union decidedly-undemocratic conglommerate states coming to the fore, we need to be very careful about the staged events being orchestrated to achieve the ruling class objectives.

>A perfect example of frankly fruitcake speculation based on a single interpretation of the world, which reflects right-wing survivalist anti-Government American ideology more than the global justice movement.

It is very necessary, imo, for activists to subject themselves to occasional speculative rants. Without speculation history, science and human knowledge stagnates. Activists need some mental stimulation, and there is no reason why indymedia shouldn't platform hypotheses about what is occurring. UK IM sometimes looks to me like it's getting very bogged down in a number of discrete established causes which demand discrete conventional established responses.
Stop this, stop that, no to etc etc seems to end with more and more of whatever is opposed.

>There are other sites for this speculation, as numerous people have pointed out. I go to IMC because it was set up to give accurate, on-the-ground coverage of 'what really happened', reported by the people who were there, not armchair ramblers. There is 'more and more of whatever is opposed' because the status quo is profitable and is being defended and promoted by those who profit DESPITE the efforts of activists. The militarisation of the G8 etc summits, and the change in focus of their laughable agendas, is evidence that the politics and tactics of the movement do have an effect.

Fundamental insight into the real mechanism by which the global fascism is rapidly being evolved is our only hope of stopping the process, which promises the death of millions and the rounding up of millions more.

>Slight paranoia of the twilight variety there, but action rather than insight is waht is required. I think we all have a fairly good grasp about what is wrong

We have to undermine the bases on which this faked up conflicting world is based on, if we are to have any hope of dismantling this vile system, and yes, people have to wake up
Otherwise it's just more and more "la lutta continua" all the way to hell

>Even if Bush were to admit planning and carrying out 9/11 tomorrow, and thus what you take the 'bases on which this fucked up conflicting world is based on' to be were out in the open, what would the plan of action then be? I would suggest that the struggle would have to continue, or be ratcheted up.

BTW I can understand your concerns that activist news can be pushed off the front page by the more speculative stuff more quickly, but please make your decisions wisely.
That Glasgow flubs article had some good commentary which is now hidden, mistakenly, imo
Comradely regards
Paul

I was emailed the Glasgow flubs by a friend, it's the kind of rant that people enjoy and circulate for its comedy value, but it doesn't really have a place on IMC, in my opinion.

IMC: A network of individuals, independent and alternative media activists and organisations, offering grassroots, non-corporate, non-commercial coverage of important social and political issues.

>Perhaps Issues should be changed to campaigns, or else it does allow conspiracy rants.

Comradely regards,
