[Imc-uk-features] hide or alter?

Dear Genny, If this was traditional old school media the sub editor would check with the reporter to make sure a quote or a description was accurate and then make changes if necessary.
Indymedia UK seems to have a policy of either leaving stuff as is or just deleting it completely.
Even basic spelling and grammar does not get corrected.
In my opinion there really ought to be some simple editing at least if only to tidy up the site and make it look more professional.
In general creative work should not be altered without checking with the writer first.
Meaning, context, and intention should be considered, and the convention used to be that there was always a certain amount of literary or artistic license allowed, and Aliens (inhuman) did not deserve respect.
Things have changed and traditional journalistic principles are hard to find these days.
I hope this is of some help to you,
Jubal Harshaw.

I was going to hide this for discrimination: "The cop in question is
wearing a riot helmet with a ski mask underneath so his face is not
visible anyway. Either he is just looking for someone else to pick on,
or he is a complete retard" implies that people with learning
disabilities would generally behave like this. But it's a great report
otherwise, so for now I've just changed "retard" into "sadist", although
it now sort of says: he's a sadist or he's a sadist! Couldn't think of
anything else to do. Should I have hidden the post? Is it acceptable
to alter other people's work?
