Yeah, that's what I did to start with (alter the one word), but not
everyone agreed and some folk feel very strongly that messing with other
people's work sets a dangerous precedent - obviously there's the
potential for abuse, although I think that possibly applies to every
other aspect of indymedia admin too. Maybe this is a debate that needs
to be had in indymedia.
My only concern was to get what was clearly, although not intentionally,
a discriminatory phrase, off the indymedia site. It was in no way a
criticism of your reporting, which I could see was being done against
the odds in the most difficult circumstances. I hid the post temporarily
about 8 hours later when I saw that the word had been reinstated with a
note to the effect that I should hide it or leave the post as it was.
Maybe there could be a simple tick-box on the publish form - tick if
you're happy to have minor edits made to your post (to prevent hiding
and/or correct spelling/typos etc.) If this box doesn't get ticked,
then it's hide or nothing.
What do people reckon? Is this workable?
