Oh, is it ok to propose a feature for another region? or should i stick
to wales? :o)
> I'm proposing this feature to go up asap on the vortex eviction, partly
> to alert people to the change of plans for international women's day
> event which was going to be there.
> i've put absolute links in for now, and haven't chosen a picture yet,
> (thought there might be one of the eviction by tomorrow morning) and
> anyone is welcome to add more to the body or correct any errors etc.
> and i've done it in a hurry, so may not have followed all the
> feature-writing guidelines properly.
> <p>The <a href="http://www.londonsocialcentre.org.uk/">Vortex Social

> <a href="http://www.indymedia.org.uk/en/2007/01/360718.html">2]</a> for
> numerous and varied community
> events. Early on the morning of March 6th, high court bailiffs and
> police moved in
> to <a href="http://www.indymedia.org.uk/en/2007/03/364444.html">evict
> the centre</a>.
> <p>An International Women's Day event, due to take place at the Vortex
> on March 8th from midday, is still happening,
> same time and day, but will be at a different location in the area.
> Check the calendar (link to calendar here?) for announcements or

> <p>The building was previously the home of the world-famous Vortex Jazz
> Club until notorious Hackney landlord and
> property developer Richard Midda bought the Vortex and threw the Jazz
> Club out. Midda's intention is
> to turn the venue into a retail outlet, possibly with luxury flats
> above. Rumour had it that <a
> was interested in opening one of its lookalike corporate coffee shops on
> the site.
> <p>In response to the threat of a Starbucks in Stokey, local residents
> <a href="http://www.indymedia.org.uk/en/2007/02/361406.html">Church
> Street Community Action Group</a>,
> which is committed to preserving the unique and non-corporate character

> subsequently claimed to have "no plans" to open a coffee shop on the
> Vortex site, although it remains to be seen
> whether they will change their minds now the building is conveniently
