Yes, perhaps you are right. I vacillate between the position of wanting more ... erhmm ... confrontation w/ [opposition] in order to deconstruct their arguments, and the position of seeking more consensus in order to dissolve argument.
At the moment, and given both the possibilities of (nuclear) conflict and the increased inhumanity shown by israel and its backers towards Gaza, I am inclined to ratchet up the confrontation of words before the impression is given that there is any kind of support for such within the wider community (rather than the rarified halls of power, for which there is unflinching, unquestioning and unlawfull support).

I actually *strongly* disagree with that. Although, over the years, I have had a few run ins etc, I think the moderated wire is a very good method of exchnge and debate. One is forced to express ones self (usually) breifly, honestly and decently and in the glare of those willing to pounce on mistakes, misapprehensions and machinations.
However, I understand that this is a tricky area, so I shall refrain from putting more than my two pennith worth in ...
