[IMC-UK-Features] Feature proposal: BNP licence application withdrawn

My reading of the situation is that, after the cops said that they anticipated more trouble than they would be able to deal with (bless 'em) the Fash were persuaded to withdraw their licence application.  Whatever our feelings about state power and authority I do feel that when for whatever reason, the state apparatus behaves in a way whose outcome we support, we are not by celebrating this accepting the basic validity or otherwise of the state.  We are, I think, marking those rare occasions when the Fash (a bunch of pathetic ignorant bullies) get a taste of their own medicine from a bully bigger and much more powerful than they are.  If as they have said the British Nazi Party go ahead and hold this little gathering without the required documentation, I for one would hope that we would all join together to request that the boys in blue exercise their powers to the utmost in this matter and should they fail to do so then there's always
citizens' arrest!  Bagsie that tosser Griffin!  In the past, some of the biggest victories against British fascism have been won in similar circumstances (for example what seems to have stopped the BUF at Cable Street was the inability or reluctance to protect a few thousand Blackshirts from up to a quarter of a million ordinary Londoners.  We still celebrate this as a victory (and I think that we are right to do so.)  So far as how widely this feature should be disseminated, I for one feel that this should be as widely as possible, in order that we prove to our selves the efficacy of even the threat of NVDA or other forms of action and so that the BNP or any other gang of Fascistic tossers know that we will not stop watching them and are prepared to take whatever steps are necessary both legal and illegal to prevent them from getting what they  want.  Finally, I think that if e do manage to stop this particular event it
may well have a very serious effect on the BNP nationally, as it seems to have become a major part of their fund raising effort and, given the recent problems that they have had in this area, any damage to this so-called festival might prove catastrophic.  Salud, Bob.

I agree with Wietse here. I sure that the pressure put by anti fascists
/ grassroots campaigns has had a decisive effect on the council's
decision not to grant the permit. Otherwise look how the festival went
ahead the previous years when there had not been any substantial antifa
mobilisation 'threat'. So yup, I agree that this is a victory for the
grassroots antifascist 'movement' in the uk. And for that I agree with
the feature going up, although i can see coming lots of comments from
fash and anti-fash and so on, but then it only needs moderating innit?

cheers
maqui
