The new London social centre located at the heart of the city fringe
expansion <a href="https://publish.indymedia.org.uk/en/2008/06/400953.html">(Bowl
Court) lost in court</a> on the 12th June and
is now considering next moves (<a
href="https://publish.indymedia.org.uk/en/2008/06/400115.html">background</a>).
The <a href="https://publish.indymedia.org.uk/en/2008/06/400568.html">Spike
in South London is also under threat</a> and raising it's profile as
part of it's strategy to hang onto the site. Another <a
href="https://publish.indymedia.org.uk/en/2008/06/400977.html">new
space opened in Nunhead</a>
south london early June. Meanwhile, the long running rampART social
centre in East London celebrated it's 4th anniversary
this month but is considering voluntary closure as it has been
suffering from neglect and lack of use since the owners were granted a
possession order in January.
<p>
The <a href="https://publish.indymedia.org.uk/en/2008/05/398725.html">squatted
church on London Road in Brighton</a> is still hanging in there. Mill
Road, <a href="https://publish.indymedia.org.uk/en/2008/05/399233.html">a
new space in cambridge</a>, also lost its court case last week but are
expecting to keep hold of
the space for a while longer. However, they have also been
experiencing <a
href="https://publish.indymedia.org.uk/en/2008/06/401170.html">violent
cowardly attacks</a>. In Amsterdam, <a
href="https://publish.indymedia.org.uk/en/2008/05/399604.html">the
Citex squat was attacked and evicted</a> by Police. Attacks on
autonomous spaces have also taken place recently elsewhere. in Rome,
fascists were
caught planting a bomb in the front yard of the ? social centre.
There have also been <a
href="https://publish.indymedia.org.uk/en/2008/04/397572.html">heavy
police repression</a> and fascist <a
href="http://athens.indymedia.org/features.php3?id=551">arson attacks
against autonomous space</a> in Greece recently.
<p>
You can keep track on news from UK social centres on
the <a href="http://www.socialcentresnetwork.org.uk">social centres
network website</a> (there is also new web portal for <a
href="http://londonscn.wordpress.com/">
Londons autonomous spaces</a>). There is a proposal for a UK social
centres network meeting in September to take place at the recently
refurbished Kebelei in Bristol (link). Women and Trans DIY-SQUATTING

BODY TEXT
The rampART 4th anniversary party raised about 250 quid to start a
seed fund for new social centres. A <a
href="https://publish.indymedia.org.uk/en/2008/05/399707.html">recent
benefit gig at the Bowl Court social centre</a> raised 360 pounds for
the Advisory Service for Squatters and the same again for Riseup.net,
the activist internet services provider many of us use on a daily
basis.
