I think that old photos etc should never be removed from indymedia,
they are an important archive. however, perhaps they don't need to be
mirrored. perhaps the mirrors could archive just the last 12 months
worth of indymedia and all older files link back to the production
server.

alternatively, could we not set up mirrors in a completely different
way using squid caching proxies as mirrors so they are only mirroring
requested files and nothing else?

also, on bandwidth.... I've said it before and I'll say it again....
last time I checked, about 10% of our bandwidth was used servicing
hotlinks to the apache helecopter killing footage and we could slash
that by killing the hotlinks direct to the video and change them to
point at the actual articles instead.
