Hi I was just thinking about this yesterday as it
happens..

The first step would be to join this mailing list
which was set up with the intention of running the
site but never really got used.

basically to run a indymedia site there should be a
collective who meet regularly and who operate in a non
hierarchical fashion to take consensus decisions.

If you were interested you would need to agree with
the principles of unity

you would then need to have a advertised a meeting or
two In Exeter? Plymouth? somewhere else? and try to
get to grips with consensus decision making

Experience has shown that face to face meetings are
important- (which is why i guess most imc's are
urban), due to the distances involved you may decide
that you could get away with only meeting every 3
months or so and by having regular 'virtual meetings'

That chatroom is also a good place to ask more about
running a IMC- just type questions into the bottom bar
and they will usually be answered- (however sometimes
people are too busy to give a response- please do not
be offended!)

Once you have had a meeting you could get passwords to
the site that would allow you to change the colour
scheme, remove spam from the newswire and update the
'frontpage' middle column using basic HTML.

Don't worry if you don't know HTML (I dont) you can
get by with just cutting and pasting.

you could of course decide that you would rather set
up Plymouth IMC, or Exeter IMC which would be good
too..

An idea i have been mulling over is whether IMC's
should define themselves in relation to which
bio-region they are in - i attatch a PDF of the UK
bioregions to see what you think.. are you all in the
South- West bioregion or are some of you in the
Severn?

Hello,

We could be interested in helping to maintain
Westcountry Indymedia 
but need to know more about what is involved.

We have some experience of simple web site design and
are keen to 
learn the new skills required.
Recent examples of sites which we are at least partly
responsible for include
www.timber-reuse.org.uk (still under construction)
www.wsdc-scrutineer.org (dedicated to fighting the
Tory scumbags and 
self-interested 'Officers' who mis-rule West Somerset
District 
Council)
www.bs3.org (we set it up but handed it over a couple
of years ago 
after leaving Bristol)
