I'd like to support this proposal and give a friendly welcome to the
York people. The content of the development site looks really good,
nice work!
It seems pretty to me to give out the subdomain, it should make it
easier for the new collective to form if they have a stable domain name
to put on publicity (or just talking to people about their site). I
agree that because this is a separate site there is a bit less leeway
here if the collective doesn't hold together. Because of the shared way
in which Mir website works, any collective that forms and then falls
apart within the with Mir structure (like Westcountry, for example)
still gets actively maintained by the rest of the Mir site users, which
wouldn't be the case for a separate site.
Having said this, it doesn't look to me like there's any particular
reason to be thinking negatively like this about the York bunch, it
looks like they're doing a great job. Good luck with the process of
building your IMC, and everyone working in York should feel free to
email any of the UK email lists at any time to ask for advice or
assistance - we're here to help!
Greetings to York,
Yossarian
