i might have complained ;-)

i disagree here. i think it is something new. let me explain why... when
previously we have pointed *.indymedia.org.uk at a new domain, it has always
been either:

a) a new site that is run by an existing collective who has been accepted into
the indymedia network, e.g. bristol (who've been through new-imc process on
their own) or the solidarity.indymedia.org.uk site that was set up by the united
kollectives (i.e. by all of us); or

b) a new group that has made use of the existing (i.e. mir) site which has a
shared database, thus ensuring that pornographic/racist/homophobic etc posts are
hidden - if not by the "new" collective, by the rest of the people who form the
united kollectives.

it was not clear from the original post that ekes made (and i'm still not
entirely sure) that ekes is that involved in this new collective.

i am also worried about doing something "because it's a trusted IMC UK person" -
i think that may be a fair enough reason if there is some immediate, tangible
benefit (for instance, we set up some voip stuff during the g8 last year, or the
history site that has been set up by yossarian and ionnek), but a trusted friend
who says that other people are ok.... we're getting a little too detached from
teh project, i think.

anyway, just some thoughts - i'm not trying to stop the new york collective
here, i'm trying to get us to think about our process and how we do stuff, cos
otherwise we'll end up in similar positions to, say, the westcountry site that
was never maintained.
