hello all,

this came through to the uk network list this morning and i thought it was worth
sharing with the network - another imc success! unfortunately, there has not
(yes?) been a feature on global about the climate camp: this is an important and
ongoing issue, so if someone has the time to write one, i don't think it's too
late! there's lots more information/reporting from the climate camp at
http://www.indymedia.org.uk/en/actions/2006/climatecamp/

love and solidarity,

Hiya,

here's update on provisional imc running costs for climate camp coverage
and field imc:

11.00 - photocopying flyers
18.97 - 100 CDR
01.94 - 100 sheets A4 paper
00.50 - 25 pens
04.49 - gaffa
10.00 - sims
10.00 - credit
05.00 - credit
10.00 - credit
02.50 - 3x5ltr water
07.50 - os map
15.00 - coffee, tea, milk, sugar, bread, spread, snacks etc
20.00 - fuel

TOTAL: £126.90 spent.

As said in proposal, london imc did some fundraising with cds, and there
were donations into the collection tin, totalling 120. Thirty pounds are
recommended allocated back to london to cover cd costs, so 90 can be given
over towards costs of running field imc, meaning total cost to network is a
stunning £36.90 - nice.

there may be one or two other bits and bobs not costed here, will report
asap if that is the case, others please shout if anything has been missed!

==============================================

The field imc was open for a minimum of five hours each day (two and a half
each morning and evening) - primarily to conserve power. Some days it was
open longer, and it ran fully all day for two days until about midnight.
Mostly the imc ran on bio-deisel, but there was also a renewables power
feed and some battery capacity. Twelve P1 laptops running via an LTSP
server from bristol wireless provided the core public access, plus varying
at different times up to five more modern laptops were running.

Two tents provided the main structures, one for the main imc / public
access part and one more as storage, kitchen and back office. A caravan and
car housed servers and provided a lock up for more expensive kit and
nighttime storage for laptops. All of this was circled around the sat dish.

Chairs came from a social centre in manchester, and table tops were donated
by trim timber recycling of manchester. 6 tables were set up balanced on top
of hay bales (looking very rustic) while another 6 table tops had very
sturdy legs masterfully constructed from scrap timber (well done mr
carpenter!). The satellite dish providing connectivity from Psand was
similarly balanced ontop of four hay bales, but was in fact rock solid once
ratcheted down - again a nice mix of rustic charm with hi tech (a vibe
enhanced by the nightime cider rations!).

Around 145 pictures were published direct from the field imc, including two
mobile phone pics (non-automated). Dispatch had over 50 phone reports on
the main day of action. Several audio interviews and video clips were
published. One freelance videographer was arrested and had their footage
seized by cops. There was lots of good filming going on, and on the friday
night, over one hour of rushes were screened in two different tents to an
appreciative audience! Several of these are now uploaded to archive.org

The field imc closed a day earlier than planned after the main power source
packed up and went home, followed by a severe weather warning, with high
winds that damaged one of the tents - thanks to all who helped take down
and pack up down in the filthy weather!

A big well done to all involved, and also those off site who also were
available at the end of a computer / phone line!

PS This was just a flavour of the basic set up, a proper debrief / write up
should be done as there's a lot to learn and some serious issues to look at
for the future.
