Hello .. I've kept quiet about this because others have expressed what
i think in a more diplomatic way than what i would probably do, so I
won't say more than:

Indeed! This sort of justification doesn't go much further than just
being a badly thought excuse, which in fact, it almost feels like a
piss take. As Tony said in some other mail, at best it shows a
completely misunderstanding of what Indymedia is, how it operates and
what it means in a political sense. At worst it indicates a total
disrespect for the project and for the work people do and have been
doing for years .. which in fact, it surprises me taking into account
that i personally know some of the people involved in that research
thing, and I am aware of the good work they have also contributed to
indy.

I am personally not very interested in hearing much more about this
subject. As far as I am concerned the 'harm has been done', and some
extra communication with indy at this point in time trying to smooth a
way out, when the funded research is about to end, doesn't come any
closer to solve the fundamental problem .. which is that had not any of
us brought this up, it seems nothing would have been communicated,
presented or explained to the network, and this is a *big* problem imo.

Anyhow, without wanting to have summary trials here, and with all due
respect to the work some ESRC folk do and have been doing for years, I
can only say that i feel Indy has been taken for a ride with this one,
and that I feel quite disappointed about this.
