Hello, we had a working meeting last night to move the new London
website along, and I am pleased to report that we came up with a plan to
move things forward.
First, a little bit of background.
The current London site is at
http://www.indymedia.org.uk/en/regions/london/. This is part of the UK
site, running on a system called Mir.
There is another domain name, http://london.indymedia.org.uk, which
redirects to the /regions/london URL when you type it in. So the plan
is, we will put the new site at http://london.indymedia.org.uk, leaving
the old content at http://www.indymedia.org.uk/en/regions/london/ right
where it is.
Now, the exciting part. Last night we made the decision to go for it
and put the London site semi-live. For the first few weeks, until the
London collective gets used to it, the new site will co-exist with the
old site, that is, it will still be possible to publish articles into
the London newswire on the UK site. Once this initial period passes,
publishing for London will be closed on the UK site and people will be
shown a link to the London publish form. At that point we would
announce the new site more publicly, probably putting up a feature on
the UK site to make people aware of the new site's existence.
Personally I am very excited about all of this, I am sure that the other
London people will correct me if I've gotten anything wrong in the above
explanation,
Yossarian
