Hi
The mock-up target of the redesign:
Has, more-or-less, been fully implemented now on this development site:
Key changes include:
- 4 column customisable front page, set your preferences here:
https://chrisc.dev.indymedia.org.uk/en/preferences.html
- Media pages:
https://chrisc.dev.indymedia.org.uk/en/image/archive.html
https://chrisc.dev.indymedia.org.uk/en/video/archive.html
https://chrisc.dev.indymedia.org.uk/en/audio/archive.html
- Selected Image: https://chrisc.dev.indymedia.org.uk/#selected
This is a random(ish) image selected from the latest 60 images
attached to promoted newswire articles.
There are some small outstanding bugs to fix and a couple of bigger
tasks still not done:
- Collapsing lists in the left hand column, copying an accessible
javascript collapsing menu seems like the best option, eg:
http://www.tjkdesign.com/articles/TJK_SlideMenu/TJK_SlideMENU.asp
- Reposts / Alt News / Other Press box, this also requires changes to
the publishing process to enable people to choose if their article has
appeared on another site already, this could perhaps wait till after
all the other updates have been made live?
Regarding the issue of how to link to articles pulled in via RSS, this
redesign has direct links to the source article by default but also
gives user the option to choose where their links point -- users can set
a cookie to make the links for their version of the site to link to the
Mir copies of the articles rather than the remote source.
When the outstanding tasks are done and if we are able to reach a
consensus on deploying these updates then I think the only other thing
that would be needed would be a feature article to explain the changes
-- we might understand the difference between a feature article and a
action topic and it might be clear to us what the different colour boxes
mean but to outsiders these things probably won't be clear.
All the best
Chris
