Don't worry I wouldn't have suggested it if it was lots of
work ;-)

Basically what we (well probably Zapata...) would do is:

1. At a SQL (database) level mark all unpublished comments
   as published but with the status hidden.

2. Mark all articles with hidden comments as updated.

3. Let articles.changed regenerate them all.

This can be done one evening at the weekend when we get a
chance... I think it is better if we do the job properly
