ok, date now passed and from what i can tell a fair bit of discussion and a lot
of support. only slight bit of disagreement seemed to be zcat but there was a
lot of explanation in regards to points raised and it didn't seem to be a block.
so, therefore, i think this has passed :-)
riseup have offered us the following, and it is ready to be setup now (debian
installed, just pending installation in the colo):
lp1000r - i forget what the cpu is for the moment.
dual 36 gig disks, raid1
512 meg ram
uk will donate $135/mo which is eighty quid.

it would be good to upgrade the memory, although this is not urgent. more
