Hi,
If anyone is interested, I can do a session on live video streaming
during the network meeting. I have built a graphical interface
application that makes it relatively easy compared to setting up the
stream using the (scary) command line.
What you end up with is a computer capable of live video streaming in
Ogg Theora format, which can be opened using VLC. Quality is very
good. The live stream is fairly low-bandwidth so it works on a wireless
connection. The stream is sent from wherever you are to the
radio.indymedia.org server which has good capabilities to rebroadcast
the stream to the rest of the world.
If anyone is interested in this stuff, please say let me know. If you
want to bring a laptop (needs to run Linux) then bring it along and we
can set it up during the session.
In theory this makes it possible to build streaming mobile laptop units
that we can use to cover events in realtime, but we will need people to
get involved and figure out the mechanics of this before it'll be a
useful capability.
