As you may (or may not) know here in the UK there has been an ongoing
conflict as to what UK Indymedia is (or is not). For years now it has not
been possible to find a resolution for this conflict. Thanks to
facilitation of the discussion by a third party, Seeds for Change, we came
to an agreement that the two positions within UK Indymedia were best to go
their separate ways. The core of this agreement is to halt UK Indymedia on
the 1st May 2011 and fork it into 2 new projects. One is called “Mayday”
and the other is called “Be The Media”. Be The Media is formed from a
number of former UK Indymedia volunteers and the collectives of Bristol,
London, Nottingham and Indymedia North. This email is written by volunteers
of the Be The Media group.

We’re approaching the 1st of May and so wanted to let you know that we are
heading towards this date and that we plan to split as per the agreement.
The split will consist of archiving the UK Indymedia site and putting a
splash page on indymedia.org.uk and uk.indymedia.org, linking to the
archive of Indymedia UK and to the new Mayday and Be The Media sites.

It is also our position that UK Indymedia will be not tenable after the
1st May other than as the archived site and a forked site allowing each
position to run new sites as they see fit, as nobody can agree on how to
run UK Indymedia.

wir ihr wisst (oder vielleicht auch nicht wisst), gab es hier in
Großbritannien einen fortdauernden Konflikt was UK Indymedia ist (oder
nicht ist). Seit Jahren ist es nicht möglich, eine Lösung für diesen
Konflikt zu finden. Dank der Mediation durch eine neutrale Gruppe, Seeds
for Change, konnten wir eine Vereinbarung treffen, nach der es am besten
ist, wenn beide Positionen innerhalb von UK Indymedia in Zukunft getrennte
Wege gehen. Der Kern dieser Vereinbarung ist das Einfrieren von UK
Indymedia am 1. Mai 2011 und ein Aufteilen des gemeinsamen Projekts in zwei
neue Projekte. Eines dieser beiden Projekte nennt sich “Mayday” und das
andere “Be the Media”. Be the media besteht aus einer Anzahl ehemaliger
AktivistInnen von UK Indymedia und den Kollektiven von Bristol, London,
Nottingham und Northern England. Diese Mail wurde von AktivistInnen der Be
the Media-Gruppe geschrieben.

Wir nähern und dem 1. Mai und wir wollten euch darüber informieren, dass
wir beabsichtigen den Trennung wie vereinbart zu vollziehen. Die Trennung
wird aus der Archivierung der UK Indymedia Seite, der Einrichtung einer
Vorschaltseite auf indymedia.org.uk und uk.indymedia.org sowie Links zum UK
Indymedia-Archiv, der neuen Mayday- und Be the Media-Seite bestehen.

Wir vertreten die Position, dass UK Indymedia nach dem 1. Mai nur noch als
Archiv und in Form von Kopien weiterbestehen kann, so dass beide Gruppen
die neuen Seiten nach ihrem Willen weiterbertreiben können, da eine
Einigung auf die Regeln für einen Weiterbetrieb von UK Indymedia unmöglich
ist.

Como puede (o no) que sepan, aquí en el Reino Unido ha habido un conflicto
continuo en cuanto a qué es (o no es) Indymedia UK (Reino Unido). Han sido
años ya de discusiones y no ha sido posible encontrar una resolución para
este conflicto. Gracias a la facilitación de la discusión por terceros,
“Seeds for Change” (Semillas para el Cambio), llegamos a un acuerdo, que lo
mejor era que las dos posiciones dentro de Indymedia UK tomaran caminos
separados. La base de este acuerdo es cerrar Indymedia UK el 1 de mayo de
2011 y bifurcarlo en 2 nuevos proyectos. Uno se llama " Mayday" y el otro
se llama “Be The Media” (Sean los Medios). Be The Media está formado por un
número de voluntarios anteriores de Indymedia UK y de los colectivos de
Bristol, de Londres, de Nottingham y de Indymedia del norte (de
Inglaterra). Este email está escrito por voluntarios del grupo “Be The
Media”.

Nos acercamos al 1o de mayo y queremos hacerles saber que nos estamos
dirigiendo hacia esta fecha y que planeamos bifurcar indymedia uk según el
acuerdo. La separación/bifurcación consistirá en archivar el sitio
Indymedia UK y en poner una página splash en indymedia.org.uk y
uk.indymedia.org, enlazando al archivo de Indymedia UK y a los nuevos
sitios de Mayday y “Be The Media”

Es también nuestra posición que Indymedia UK no será sostenible después
del 1 de mayo con excepción del sitio archivado y un sitio bifurcado
permitiendo que cada posición mantenga nuevos sitios como vean conveniente,
pues nadie puede llegar a un acuerdo con cómo ha de funcionar Indymedia UK.
