Wessely lecture "cancellation" farce

Would the administrators of Gresham College and Professor Wessely like to explain to the public and the press why the college reception were telling members of the public who phoned the college throughout the day, on Wednesday, that the Wessely lecture due to take place that evening had been cancelled? 

On whose authority was this message being conveyed to the public? 

Both the lecture and the protest took place as planned.
