[Imc-uk-useability] calendar wiki up for ideas

Speaking from an ordinary indymedia user (only recently turned admin) viewpoint, the current calendar facility is hopelessly confusing and completely useless.

It does not appear to be part of or tie into the main indymedia sites (which it isn't). When you get into it, it's very cluttered and confusing in itself, and most importantly, it does not link to the regional site that you've just come from, which is the main thing I had expected it to do.

I entered a couple of things and they never ever appeared on the Liverpool Indymedia calendar, so I gave up.

Having become an admin for imc Liverpool, I at last discovered why: the calendar info on our regional site has bugger all to do with the calendar entry form that is linked to. Instead somebody manually picks out events to include from various sources - NOT from the protest.net calendar, but principally the newswire, and http://www.newsfromnowhere.org.uk/noticeboard/localevents/index.php , which was built by yours truly btw :-), and other local sources - and writes html for an include file.

Our regional site doesn't tell you any of that currently - for a long while no-one has been able to edit the site layout (and for a long while there have only been about 2 imc liverpool admins, now there are a few more). First thing I'm going to do when I get my hands on the templates is to zap that duplicitous 'Calendar - Announce An Event' link. Meanwhile, I'll get our calendar person to add a short message to tell people to ignore it.

cheers

Maria
