Hello again

Done some work on this. You can see the publish page by starting at

https://mish.dev.indymedia.org.uk/en/static/prepublish.html

(There are some problems with the CSS I haven't sorted out ...) There's
probably a better way of presenting the choice, but this will do for
now ...

Click on the "Link to existing article" button to get to

https://mish.dev.indymedia.org.uk/mish/servlet/OpenMir?do=opensession&sessiontype=otherpressarticle&language=en&to_uk=&nrmediaitems=0&nrftpitems=0

We've changed the way the article will look aswell, for example

https://mish.dev.indymedia.org.uk/en/2006/12/341494.html

Still need to work on the CSS to improve the spacing, but you get the
idea of

describe the article
who described it
link to the article
extract from the article

Note that I have done nothing on how this will be shown on the startpage
- that's another stage in the process. Also still need to work on the
post publish page and the RSS feed, but I reckon it's enough for
feedback, so what do people think?

Here are some comments from IRC when I asked

(Post publish page suggestion:) it reads: "It will appear in a
few minutes on the main page." but it clearly won't! That might
be a good place for a paypal link or to a donations page or
        whatever

i think that maybe the 'other press' page is a way of just
pointing people to a link of something else thats interesting
that they can read outside of Indymedia. I'm wondering wheter to
have the 'why did you think this article is interesting' box
        really adds to that

And on whether a comment is required, and whether the whole text should
be present or not, people seemed to think a comment should be present,
but it was not agreed whether we should encourage the whole article or
part of it ...

############

<chrisc> why the "(but please do not copy-paste the whole article)" bit?
sometimes it is better to post the whole thing if the intention is to
mirror a page that might go away

<wietse> yeah, but the brief description would be good
just a link with a short description
maybe these could be promoted nicely in the middle column

* chrisc perhaps "you don't have to paste the whole article"

<wietse> i kinda like the description though
it means we enable people to make others aware of articles elsewhere
but we encourage people to publish original content
just copy and pasting is not really what we're about

* wietse likes to encourage people to publish original content and thus
read articles by other outlets on their original pages, instead of
reading a copy and pasted version on uk indy

chrisc often finds articles that are reposted easier to read on
indymedia than their original sites...

 mp sits on the fence

<mp> nothing should be posted without commentary/analysis, i think
but if it is commented well, then it can be useful with the whole post
 BUT:
 that might raise copyright issues

<chrisc> yeah, an original description is key
<wietse> yeah

<chrisc> i think with copyright we mostly only need to worry if we are
asked to take anything down and then if it is copyright infringing then
we would generally take it down i guess
* chrisc copyright issues have been rare haven't they?

<mp> chrisc: i see, but perhaps it might make sense to think about it,
i.e. not encourage fully pasted stuff, i don't know. in any case, if i
had a newspaper and some anarcha-trippers linked to it, i'd be happy!

<chrisc> hehe

So any other thoughts
