Hi Ell,
Apologies for the slightly tardy reply. I've been reading, and proof-reading, your most excellent Video Workshop Class Notes from last autumn's Gdansk trainings. Phew! Why on earth do you need ME to come and do any training whatsoever? ;-)
Seriously, though folks -- I'm extremely impressed with the breadth and depth of the course you taught, to judge by the class Class Notes I've nearly finished proofing (on p7 of 8) -- there's tips in there even I can learn from and put to good use. Apart from the odd and infrequent addition, my only criticism is the somewhat poor presentation in (ill-)written English. Having worked in magazine and technical publishing, and been editor of several newsletters, I couldn't help doing a proof-readers mark up -- which is why I've taken so long to read 'em, and to reply. A typical paragraph may have eight corrections, including capitalisation, spelling, punctuation, spacing, grammar and bulleted list formatting. However, I'm only pointing this out as a prelude to volunteering to fix all these errors, because I think the underlying content is top notch, and I want us to use a suitably modified version of these notes on my training in London and ours in Bristol, with your permission.
I've yet to confirm details with my friends Kate and Barry, but I would like to arrive in Bristol on Fri evening, 17 Jun 05. So we could do equipment checks and details finalisation at your place on Sat for a couple of hours -- and get me familiar with travelling to and finding my way around your place too. And thank you very much for volunteering to host the Bristol training @ yours.
However, I hope we can do the majority of preparation, organisation and recruiting by teleworking collaborations on the net -- email, wiki, email lists, IMC newswire & features, IM; maybe even VoIP & videoconferencing. Oh and maybe even the oh so humble telephone network, yay even unto the snail mail [makes <disgusted> face while wiping icky mucus onto his trousers] ;-} OK with you?
I see my/our tasks in roughly this order:
1. Finish proofing your Video Workshop Class Notes on paper
2. Make proofing corrections and a few small editorial additions to 'Class Notes' on my PowerBook -- some of which I will query with you, probably by email
3. Upload corrected / expanded 'Class Notes' to a wiki for your perusal / modification / approval -- can you suggest/establish a place?
4. We pin down precise spacetime details for our Bristol Video Activist One Day Training Workshop.
5. We announce our training, collaboration and intentions (London & Bristol Video Activist One Day Training Workshops) on Imc-g8-2005, Imc-london, Imc-uk & Imc-uk-video lists;
- Appeal for London co-tutor, and fix a spacetime world line for the London Training
- See if there are other UK pre-G8 outreach/training events (video/audio/photo) out of which we will be able to make an IndyMedia UK middle-column feature (and static page?), once the appropriate newswire promo-posts are uploaded -- and encourage other trainers so to do
6. (Me/You/Us) Prepare "Video Activist One Day Training Workshops" wiki or website with Workshop overview, timetable, joining instructions, suitably adapted class notes, Your Comments, links, etc; could be illustrated with some of the best snaps of your Gdansk trainings
7. (Me/You/Us) Write promotional outreach material for our London & Bristol Trainings -- "places are limited, we expect high demand and over-subscription, so booking early is recommended to avoid disappointment," etc. (and agree booking protocols).
- A. Newswire uploads, linking to 6.
- B. IndyMedia UK middle-column feature, linking to all A's and 6 - maybe even a static page?
- C. paper flyers and posters (as downloadable PDFs), ref'ing A, B and 6.
- D. email list postings, linking to 6.
...and maybe even...
- E. IndyMedia UK radio ad's, ref'ing 6.
- F. T-shirts advertising & marking the events, ref'ing 6.
There's probably stuff your experience allows you to add to this list -- do let me know what your thoughts are on this, and on how we equitably share out the tasks.
I've even got one prospect already, who asked if he could shoot a stained glass window on video:
Thu 19 May 05 @ 13:29:51
Met @ church.co.uk (where I get free Wi-Fi broadband, despite being a militant atheist! :-)
Just finishing video-related BA @ South Bank University, London
Starting video-related MA @ Goldsmiths, London in Sep 05 (as is our Alex/Janine)
Interested in Video Activist Training in London
Phew! That'll do for now, won't it so? Thanks in advance for your time and attention. I look forward to hearing from you soon.
Peace and Love, + International Solidarity,
