REEL COMMUNITY: Revolution Underground <http://citizen.nfb.ca/onf/info?did=741>

The Black Community Resource Centre in Montreal was the meeting place for 11 youth involved in an NFB documentary training initiative. Working as a collective, they set out to ask the question, What is revolution? Answering the question are talented young activists and artists in the South Bronx, Brooklyn, Harlem, Kahnawake and Montreal, illustrating how revolution is being shaped and redefined in the 21st century. This is CitizenShift's first in a series of youth activism dossiers. Stay tuned this summer for more.

Min Sook Lee received a Cesar E. Chavez Black Eagle Award on May 4, at a ceremony in Toronto hosted by the Canadian Labour Congress. The award is one of four prizes being presented by the United Farm Workers of America in association with the Canadian Labour Congress, Ontario Region, and the Global Justice CareVan Project. Min Sook Lee received the award in recognition of the impact her NFB documentary El Contrato has made on the rights of migrant farm workers in Canada. Check out our dossier on this subject and watch clips from El Contrato (The Contract).

REEL COMMUNITY: Revolution Underground <http://citizen.nfb.ca/onf/info?aid=3281>

Community organizer Shani Carter had never produced a movie before. Her motivation to counter the pervasive negative stereotypes of young Black people was so strong that she dove in, head first. In this interview Carter discusses how the process of making the film with eleven youth from different communities of colour was the proof she was looking for: youth can make major contributions to their communities if given the chance.
