If you are using Apple stuff you can download QuickTime Broadcaster  
and/or Darwin Streaming Server:
http://www.apple.com/quicktime/broadcaster/
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/QuickTime_Broadcaster
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Darwin_Streaming_Server, you might be  
able to use this in the mix as well.

Looks like Mac OS X 10.3.9 or later.

I don't think I will be too helpful with settings as I haven't played  
with this in quite a while now.

Sounds like a worthy idea.  One thing you might need to add is a  
directional antenna on maybe the laptop or the wireless access point  
or even both to get more range.
