[IMC-Video] video streaming discussion...

I think that local hacklabs are awesome projects that can realy help to
generate interest and set aside time for tech gatherings that usually
gets neglected. i'm not sure how that scales to intl level beyond the
list that we have here already. 

Last night at our hacklab i explained and demo'ed our ogg theora
streaming setup that we're using next month for the zapaista tour stop
in tijuana. simply using the instructions from streaming suitcase.com
and a mont point on radio.indymedia.org worked. on ubuntu we were able
to install everthing from packages except from oggfwd, which is a really
simple compile. and i'm using ubuntu on an ibook and it works great. 

but, the problem we're still facing is the question of internet access.
is wireless fast enough? the ubuntu airport extreme driver only supports
11mbs/sec. prolly not fast enough! also, finding high speed access in
tijuana is proving hard for us. we're probably just going to have to
raise the funds to have a high speed dsl or cable line put into our
venue, and we have about a month to make that happen.
